EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION
Early years are the most formative in children's lives as they set the foundations for their lifelong development. Family-centred Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is a comprehensive system of support and services that focuses on addressing the unique needs of young children who may be experiencing developmental delays or disabilities. They focus on the child’s strengths and potential, are co-led by families and are designed to adapt to their needs, resources, and environment.
The aim of Early Childhood Intervention is to empower families and main caregivers in creating an environment that supports their children's development and acquisition of competencies during their first six years of life when their brains are rapidly developing and are most receptive to learning. ECI services are a key element in the deinstitutionalisation process as they empower families, contribute to preventing the placement of children in institutions and foster their inclusion in education.
